Focus on Economy Instead of Political Battles, ADC Chieftain Urges Tinubu

Opposition Leader Calls on President to Prioritise Inflation, Jobs and Cost-of-Living Challenges                                                        

                                        

A senior chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to concentrate on addressing Nigeria's worsening economic challenges rather than engaging in prolonged political disputes, arguing that millions of Nigerians are more concerned about their livelihoods than partisan competition.

The ADC leader said the Federal Government should make economic recovery, job creation and improving living standards its immediate priorities as households continue to grapple with inflation, high food prices and rising living costs. 

"Nigerians Want Economic Relief"

Speaking during a media briefing, the ADC chieftain maintained that ordinary Nigerians are expecting practical solutions to economic hardship rather than political confrontations.

According to him, the administration should devote greater attention to policies capable of reducing inflation, stabilising the naira, expanding investment and creating employment opportunities for young people.

He argued that improving the economy would ultimately strengthen public confidence in government more than political rhetoric or partisan exchanges. 

Concerns Over Cost of Living

The opposition figure highlighted the impact of persistent inflation on households across the country, noting that many families continue to struggle with the increasing cost of food, transportation, housing and essential services.

He called for more targeted interventions to support vulnerable Nigerians while encouraging policies that stimulate local production and attract domestic and foreign investment.

Appeal for Inclusive Governance

The ADC official also encouraged the Federal Government to deepen engagement with opposition parties, civil society organisations and the private sector in developing long-term economic solutions.

He said national development requires broad collaboration rather than excessive political competition, particularly at a time when many citizens are facing significant economic pressure.

Government's Economic Agenda

President Tinubu's administration has repeatedly stated that its Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on restoring economic stability through fiscal reforms, infrastructure development, increased investment and improvements in the business environment.

Government officials have defended recent economic reforms—including fuel subsidy removal and exchange-rate liberalisation—as necessary steps toward achieving sustainable long-term growth, despite the short-term challenges experienced by many Nigerians. 

Call for Results

The ADC chieftain concluded by urging the administration to demonstrate measurable progress on issues that directly affect citizens' daily lives, including employment, inflation, electricity supply and economic growth.

He said Nigerians would ultimately judge the government's performance by its ability to improve living conditions and deliver tangible economic outcomes rather than by political victories or partisan disagreements.
