Nepal is facing a devastating humanitarian crisis after catastrophic flash floods swept through communities near the Nepal-Tibet border, killing more than 600 people and leaving thousands still unaccounted for as desperate families search for missing relatives.

The disaster struck on Wednesday after a massive landslide and debris flow sent a powerful surge of water and mud through the mountainous region, destroying homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. The flooding spread far downstream, leaving several communities cut off from the outside world.
Nepal Police reported 616 deaths and more than 2,300 injuries, while thousands of people remain missing across Nepal and Tibet. Rescue teams have been working in extremely difficult conditions, with damaged roads, heavy mud and challenging terrain slowing efforts to reach affected communities.
The scale of the disaster has also left families in anguish. Relatives have gathered at hospitals and emergency centres, putting up photographs and searching for information about loved ones who have not been heard from since the floods. Some families have gone several days without knowing whether their relatives are alive.
More than 400 tourists are also reported to be missing, including foreign nationals from several countries who were travelling through the region. Hundreds of people have already been rescued, while helicopters and emergency teams continue to evacuate survivors and deliver essential supplies.
Authorities are also monitoring the possibility of further flooding as rescue operations continue, adding another layer of danger to an already devastated region.
As rescue workers race against time, the priority remains finding survivors, reaching isolated communities and providing answers to thousands of families anxiously waiting for news of their missing loved ones.
