Rescuers located the child inside a narrow space formed by mud, debris and the remains of the building before carefully pulling her to safety. Nepal’s Armed Police Force released footage showing the dramatic rescue operation.

The rescue comes as emergency teams continue searching through devastated communities for survivors and missing people following the catastrophic floods. Hundreds of people have died, while thousands remain unaccounted for in Nepal and neighbouring Tibet.

The girl’s survival after almost two and a half days under the debris has provided a powerful reminder that survivors may still be found despite the difficult conditions facing rescue teams.

As rescuers continue their painstaking search, the successful rescue of the young girl has brought a much-needed message of hope to families still waiting for news of their loved ones.
