Jonathan David made Atlético Madrid history as the Spanish side recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Osasuna in LaLiga on Wednesday.

David has now scored in each of his first two LaLiga appearances for Atlético, becoming the club’s first player in the 21st century to find the net in his opening two league matches.

Atlético controlled much of the match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and continued to create chances after taking the lead. Osasuna briefly appeared to have equalised, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for a prior foul.

Kang-in Lee doubled Atlético’s advantage, finishing a move involving David and Ademola Lookman. Robin Le Normand then added a third before Álex Baena completed the scoring late in the match.

The result lifted Diego Simeone’s team to third place in the early LaLiga standings and provided further momentum ahead of Sunday’s Madrid derby against Real Madrid.

David was particularly influential throughout the game, combining his goalscoring contribution with link-up play and creating opportunities for teammates. His performance adds to the growing attention surrounding the summer signing.

Atlético also kept a clean sheet, giving the team a strong all-round performance as Simeone continues to develop his squad for the new campaign.

With the Madrid derby now approaching, David’s fast start gives Atlético another attacking option as they prepare for one of the most anticipated fixtures of the LaLiga season.
