The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Oyo State Government to investigate the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area is expected to present its findings today.

The commission was established following the May 15, 2026, abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in the area. The incident drew widespread concern and prompted calls for a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Panel to Present Findings on Oyo School Abduction Today

Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated an eight-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry, chaired by Professor Mojeed Owoade, to investigate the incident and establish the facts surrounding the abduction.

The panel was tasked with examining possible institutional and operational lapses and recommending measures that could improve the security of schools and surrounding communities.

Its findings are expected to provide details on what happened before, during and after the abduction, as well as identify areas where security arrangements may require improvement.

The development comes as criminal proceedings related to the incident continue. Five men accused of involvement in the abduction were recently re-arraigned by the Department of State Services on seven amended charges. They pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The defendants are also accused of complicity in the deaths of two victims. A witness in the ongoing case recently confirmed the identities of two teachers who were killed during the victims' 56-day ordeal, while stressing that she did not witness the killings herself.

The commission's report could therefore provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding the incident and offer recommendations aimed at preventing similar attacks on schools in Oyo State.

The presentation of the findings will also be closely watched by affected families, education stakeholders and residents seeking greater accountability and improved protection for schools and communities.
