The Honourable Member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Revd Francis Ejiroghene Waive, has commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his exemplary leadership in the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses across the state.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the successful State Congress in Asaba, Revd Waive described the exercise as “the most peaceful in the history of the APC in Delta State,” attributing the smooth process to Governor Oborevwori’s statesmanship and effective management of party affairs.
He noted that the congresses, which commenced at the ward level and culminated in the state congress, were conducted across the 270 wards and 25 local government areas, with party leaders at every level given the freedom to determine their executive members.
“In areas where disagreements arose, His Excellency mediated to achieve peaceful resolutions without taking sides. This is leadership in action,” Waive said.
He recalled that during the State Caucus meeting preceding the State Congress, members had urged the governor to exercise his prerogative in choosing the State Chairman. However, Oborevwori declined to impose any candidate, insisting that party stakeholders meet at zonal levels, agree on a sharing formula, and consult their constituencies before presenting names for various positions.
“We spent over an hour persuading the governor to choose the State Chairman, but he insisted on broad consultation and consensus. That approach ensured inclusiveness and strengthened unity within the party,” the federal lawmaker said.
Revd Waive, who is also Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, emphasized that the outcome of the congresses has consolidated party cohesion and positioned the Delta APC for stronger performance in the 2027 general elections.
He called on party faithful to remain united and committed to the APC’s objectives, urging support for Governor Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in advancing the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.
