Lando Norris produced a stunning qualifying lap to secure pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, ending Mercedes' remarkable run of 10 consecutive Formula One pole positions during the 2026 season.
The reigning world champion delivered a late flying lap at the Hungaroring to put his McLaren at the front of the grid, narrowly beating Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton by just 0.012 seconds in one of the closest qualifying sessions of the year.
Norris' performance marks his first Grand Prix pole position of the 2026 season and signals a major step forward for McLaren after introducing upgrades that significantly improved the car's pace throughout the weekend. Mercedes had entered the Hungarian Grand Prix with an unbroken streak of pole positions in every race so far this season. Norris' lap ended that run and demonstrated that McLaren has closed the performance gap heading into the second half of the championship.
