Fernandes enjoyed an outstanding campaign, breaking the Premier League single-season assist record with 21 assists and scoring nine goals as Manchester United finished third and secured Champions League qualification.

The Portugal international becomes the first Manchester United player since Wayne Rooney in 2010 to win the prestigious players’ award. His latest honour also completes a remarkable individual awards treble after he previously collected the Premier League and Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year prizes.

Meanwhile, Shaw was recognised after another prolific season with Manchester City. The Jamaica international scored 21 goals in 22 WSL appearances, helping City win the league title while claiming her third consecutive WSL Golden Boot.

Fernandes’ creativity and leadership and Shaw’s goalscoring excellence have earned them the top individual honours from their fellow professionals, capping outstanding seasons for both players.
