At least four Palestinians were killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip despite U.S. President Donald Trump announcing what he described as a breakthrough toward implementing a new ceasefire and disarmament agreement between Israel and Hamas.

According to local health officials, the latest strikes hit Gaza City and Deir al-Balah, killing a couple and a child in one attack while additional casualties were reported elsewhere in the enclave. The bombardments continued even as diplomatic efforts to revive a U.S.-backed peace roadmap remained underway.

Strikes Hit Civilian Areas

Medical sources said an Israeli airstrike struck an apartment in central Deir al-Balah, killing a husband and wife and injuring several other people. In a separate attack on Gaza City, another apartment building was hit, leaving at least two people, including a child, dead.

Emergency teams responded to the affected neighbourhoods, transporting the wounded to nearby hospitals as rescue workers searched damaged buildings for possible survivors.

Trump Announces Diplomatic Progress

The renewed violence came only days after President Trump announced that negotiators had achieved a significant breakthrough in talks aimed at ending the conflict.

Under the U.S.-supported proposal, Hamas would agree to disarm as part of a phased implementation of an Egypt-brokered ceasefire framework, while Israel would gradually withdraw its forces under internationally supervised arrangements.

However, implementation has stalled because both sides continue to disagree over the sequence of key obligations.

Hamas and Israel Remain Divided

Hamas has maintained that it will not begin full disarmament until Israel halts military operations and withdraws troops in accordance with the proposed agreement.

Israeli officials, meanwhile, have insisted that any withdrawal must be preceded by what they describe as genuine and verifiable disarmament of Hamas. Some members of Israel's governing coalition have publicly opposed the proposed arrangement altogether.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not publicly commented on the latest reported breakthrough.

Humanitarian Situation Remains Critical

The continued strikes have added to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of displaced residents continue to face shortages of food, medicine, clean water and shelter.

International humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned that sustained military operations and delays in implementing ceasefire agreements continue to worsen living conditions across the territory.

Uncertain Path to Peace

Despite Washington's optimism, the latest violence underscores the fragile nature of negotiations and the significant obstacles that remain before any ceasefire can take effect.

Diplomatic mediators continue efforts to bridge differences between the parties, but with military operations ongoing and political disagreements unresolved, the prospect of a lasting truce remains uncertain.
