The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has terminated the appointment of a staff member accused of extorting candidates, as the examination body strengthens its efforts to tackle corruption and misconduct within its operations.
JAMB disclosed the development in its latest bulletin, stating that the unnamed staff member was dismissed as part of its renewed drive to protect candidates and maintain the integrity of the admission and examination processes.
The Board said its efforts to combat fraud are not limited to individuals operating outside the organisation. It stressed that staff members found exploiting candidates or abusing their positions would also face disciplinary action.
JAMB warned its workforce against engaging in conduct capable of undermining the credibility of the Board or taking advantage of candidates and members of the public. Such actions, it said, would attract sanctions in line with established rules.
The examination body described the dismissal as a clear indication that its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applies to all employees, regardless of their position.
JAMB also said it would not shield staff members who abuse the trust placed in them by candidates or members of the public. The Board urged its employees to maintain professional and ethical standards in carrying out their responsibilities.
The development comes as JAMB continues efforts to reduce examination fraud and other forms of malpractice. Earlier this year, the Board warned candidates and members of the public against syndicates claiming they could manipulate UTME results or provide unauthorised assistance.
JAMB also maintains a cashless registration system and advises candidates to use accredited centres while keeping sensitive details such as passwords, e-PINs and other security information confidential.
The Board said the fight against fraud must begin from within the organisation and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a professional, accountable and transparent workforce.
