Man City 1-0 Coventry: Haaland Keeps Maresca’s Perfect Premier League Start Alive

Haaland struck in the 26th minute with a powerful header from Antoine Semenyo’s cross after new signing Enzo Fernández helped create the opening. The goal was Haaland’s third of the Premier League season and the 300th club goal of his senior career, adding another milestone to an already remarkable scoring record.

Manchester City dominated possession but struggled to turn their control into a comfortable scoreline. Coventry remained competitive throughout the match and created opportunities after the break, forcing City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma into important saves as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

The result gives City three wins from three Premier League matches, keeping them at the top of the table with nine points. The defending champions Arsenal are three points behind ahead of their match against Chelsea.

Fernández was one of the standout performers on his Manchester City debut. The Argentina international was initially expected to begin on the bench but entered the starting XI after Nico O'Reilly suffered an injury shortly before kick-off. His contribution to the winning goal provided an encouraging early sign following his move from Chelsea.

Maresca has overseen a major rebuilding project at City following Pep Guardiola’s departure, with the club spending heavily during the transfer window. Fernández and Iliman Ndiaye both made their debuts against Coventry as the new-look squad continues to adapt to the manager’s approach.

For Coventry, the defeat was their third consecutive loss since returning to the Premier League. Frank Lampard’s side showed resilience and made City work for the points, but they were unable to find the goal that would have secured their first point of the campaign.

The victory may not have been City's most convincing performance, but it delivered exactly what Maresca will value most: another three points. With Haaland continuing to provide the goals and several new signings settling into the team, City’s perfect start gives them an early platform to challenge for the Premier League title.
