Mark van Bommel singles out Kevin De Bruyne after Turkey victory

Belgium manager Mark van Bommel has praised Kevin De Bruyne after the midfielder scored twice in Belgium’s 3-0 Nations League victory over Turkey.

De Bruyne opened the scoring before adding a second goal later in the match as Belgium produced a convincing performance. Romelu Lukaku completed the scoring with a third goal.

The result marked another strong performance from De Bruyne, who has continued to play an important role for Belgium despite being one of the more experienced players in the squad.

Van Bommel said De Bruyne remains eager to play and pointed to his performances against Italy, France and Turkey as evidence of his current form.

“Kevin De Bruyne always wants to play,” Van Bommel said, adding that the midfielder is “in a really good groove” and is “radiating joy” on the pitch.

De Bruyne, who earned his 127th international cap, also said he was enjoying his football and believed he could still contribute to the national team.

“I try to lead by example for the younger players,” De Bruyne said. “I feel I can still contribute. I am enjoying myself, and that is the main thing.”

Belgium’s victory was also important in their Nations League campaign, with the result leaving them one point behind Group A1 leaders France. Turkey, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat in as many matches.

Van Bommel acknowledged that Belgium were not perfect during the match, saying his team became sloppy in possession at times and allowed Turkey opportunities to create chances.

However, the Belgian coach was pleased with the overall result and particularly the contribution of De Bruyne, whose two goals helped Belgium secure a comfortable victory.

The performance will further underline De Bruyne’s importance to Belgium as the experienced midfielder continues to combine leadership with his contribution in front of goal.
