ASUU Threatens Strike at ESUT Over Alleged Non-Implementation of 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has threatened to embark on industrial action over the alleged failure to implement key provisions of the 2025 agreement reached with the institution's management and the Enugu State Government.

According to the union, several commitments contained in the agreement remain outstanding despite previous assurances that they would be addressed. ASUU said the delay has continued to affect the welfare of its members and the smooth operation of academic activities.

ASUU urged the university administration and relevant government authorities to urgently implement the terms of the agreement to prevent disruption to teaching, research and other academic activities.

The union warned that if the outstanding issues are not resolved within the stipulated timeframe, it may be left with no option but to commence industrial action in line with its internal procedures.

While expressing its dissatisfaction, ASUU appealed to students and parents to remain calm, emphasizing that its objective is to ensure the full implementation of agreements aimed at improving the university system and the welfare of academic staff.

The union reiterated its commitment to dialogue but stressed that meaningful progress must be made to avoid a strike.

As of the time of reporting, the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) had not issued an official response to the union's latest position.
