R&B Star Admits Affray Offence as More Serious Charges Are Dropped Ahead of Sentencing                             

                                               

American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to an affray charge over a violent altercation at a London nightclub, bringing a significant development in a criminal case that has attracted widespread public attention. Prosecutors dropped more serious charges as part of the proceedings, with Brown now awaiting sentencing later this year.

Brown entered his guilty plea at Southwark Crown Court in London in connection with an incident that occurred at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023. His co-defendant, musician and vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to the same affray offence.

According to prosecutors, the altercation involved music producer Abraham Diaw, who was allegedly struck with a tequila bottle during what authorities described as an unprovoked attack inside the crowded nightclub. Surveillance footage and witness evidence formed part of the prosecution's case.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors withdrew the more serious charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. The affray conviction carries a maximum prison sentence of three years under UK law, though the actual sentence will be determined by the court after considering the circumstances of the case.

Brown was originally arrested in Manchester in 2025 after returning to the United Kingdom and was later granted bail after providing a £5 million security payment, allowing him to continue his scheduled tour while the case proceeded. Following his latest court appearance, he remains on bail pending sentencing.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the guilty pleas reflected the seriousness of the incident and reiterated that violent offences would be prosecuted regardless of an individual's public profile. Prosecutors emphasized that maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law remain priorities.

Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on October 26, when the court will determine the appropriate penalty after reviewing submissions from both the prosecution and the defence.
