The Federal Government of Nigeria (FG) has officially opened applications for a laptop and smartphone loan programme aimed at improving access to digital devices and expanding financial inclusion across the country.

The initiative is designed to help eligible Nigerians acquire laptops and smartphones through affordable financing arrangements, enabling more people to participate in the digital economy, online learning, remote work and technology-driven businesses.

According to the programme guidelines, successful applicants will receive financing to purchase approved devices from accredited vendors, with repayment structured over an agreed period under terms set by the programme administrators.

Programme Objectives

The Federal Government said the scheme is intended to:

  • Expand access to digital tools for education and employment.
  • Support entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business owners.
  • Improve digital literacy and financial inclusion.
  • Encourage wider participation in Nigeria's growing digital economy.
  • Reduce the financial burden of purchasing essential technology devices outright.

Officials noted that smartphones and laptops have become essential tools for communication, education, business operations and access to government and financial services.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants are generally expected to meet the following conditions:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen.
  • Possess a valid means of identification.
  • Have a Bank Verification Number (BVN) and/or National Identification Number (NIN), where applicable.
  • Meet any credit assessment or affordability requirements specified by the programme.
  • Provide accurate personal and financial information during the application process.
  • Agree to the loan repayment terms and conditions.

Additional eligibility criteria may apply depending on the financial institution or implementing partner handling the application.

Application Process

Interested applicants are encouraged to:

  1. Visit the programme's official application portal.
  2. Complete the online registration form.
  3. Upload all required documents.
  4. Submit the application for verification.
  5. Await notification regarding approval or additional requirements.

Authorities advised applicants to ensure all information provided is accurate, as false declarations could result in disqualification.

Government Warns Against Fraud

The Federal Government urged Nigerians to apply only through authorised channels and avoid individuals or websites requesting unofficial fees to process applications.

Officials warned that the application process should be completed using verified government or partner platforms and encouraged applicants to report suspected scams to the appropriate authorities.

Supporting Nigeria's Digital Economy

The loan programme forms part of broader government efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure, improve technology adoption and equip more Nigerians with the tools needed to compete in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

Industry analysts say expanding access to affordable digital devices could benefit students, professionals, entrepreneurs and small businesses by increasing productivity and improving access to online opportunities.

As applications begin, the Federal Government has encouraged qualified Nigerians to review the eligibility requirements carefully and submit their applications before the announced deadline.                                                                                                                                                                                       Visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. application page at credicorp.ng/clickd.
