The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has announced that it generated ₦63.07 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2026, reflecting a significant boost in customs collections amid intensified efforts to strengthen border enforcement and improve trade facilitation.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, disclosed the revenue performance during a press briefing, describing the achievement as a testament to the command's commitment to efficient revenue collection, anti-smuggling operations and compliance with federal customs regulations.

According to the controller, the ₦63.07 billion generated between January and June 2026 represents a substantial increase compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. He attributed the growth to improved operational efficiency, enhanced cargo processing, stronger stakeholder collaboration and the deployment of technology to streamline customs procedures.

Abubakar said the command remained focused on balancing revenue generation with legitimate trade facilitation, ensuring that importers and exporters comply with existing customs laws while reducing unnecessary delays in cargo clearance.

Beyond revenue collection, the controller highlighted the command's achievements in combating smuggling across Kano and Jigawa states. He said customs officers recorded several seizures during the review period, intercepting prohibited and undeclared goods, including foreign parboiled rice, petroleum products, pharmaceutical items and other contraband destined for illegal markets.

He noted that the anti-smuggling operations were part of the Nigeria Customs Service's broader strategy to protect the nation's economy, support local industries and safeguard public health by preventing the entry of prohibited goods.

The Customs Area Controller also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, border communities and business stakeholders in tackling cross-border crimes and promoting voluntary compliance with customs regulations.

He urged importers, exporters and licensed customs agents to continue adhering to the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act and other applicable trade laws, warning that the command would sustain its enforcement activities against tax evasion, smuggling and other forms of economic sabotage.

Abubakar reaffirmed the command's commitment to supporting the Federal Government's economic agenda by improving revenue generation, facilitating legitimate trade and strengthening border security.

Industry observers say the strong revenue performance reflects the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service aimed at modernizing customs administration, enhancing transparency and maximizing non-oil revenue for the Federal Government.

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command is one of the strategic formations of the Nigeria Customs Service, playing a key role in revenue collection, border security and the regulation of cross-border trade across northwestern Nigeria. The command is expected to sustain its operational momentum in the second half of the year as it works toward meeting its annual revenue target.
