The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is not under investigation in connection with an alleged visa fraud case, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency said media reports linking the Immigration chief to an ongoing investigation were false and misleading, urging the public to disregard the claims.

According to the EFCC, while the Commission is investigating allegations related to visa processing and other immigration-related activities, the Comptroller-General is not a subject of the investigation.

"The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service is not under probe," the EFCC said, adding that it remains committed to conducting its investigations professionally and without prejudice.

The agency cautioned against the spread of unverified information, noting that inaccurate reports could undermine public confidence in ongoing investigations and damage the reputations of individuals and institutions.

The EFCC reiterated that it will continue to investigate cases of alleged financial crimes, corruption and fraud in accordance with the law, while ensuring that due process is followed throughout its operations.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has also maintained that its leadership remains focused on strengthening border security, improving service delivery and enhancing the integrity of the country's immigration and visa administration systems.
