Arsenal 3-0 Coventry: Gunners Begin Title Defence in Style

Havertz, Saka and Ødegaard Fire Arsenal to Comfortable Opening-Day Victory                  

                                         

Arsenal made a flying start to their Premier League title defence, defeating newly promoted Coventry City 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the opening game of the 2026/27 season.

The reigning champions took control early, with Kai Havertz opening the scoring in the 15th minute after Riccardo Calafiori helped create the opportunity. Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal's advantage in the 23rd minute, before captain Martin Ødegaard added the third shortly after half-time.

Arsenal Set the Tone

Mikel Arteta's side dominated possession and created enough chances to make the victory comfortable, while Coventry struggled to cope with the champions' attacking movement and intensity.

Christos Tzolis was particularly impressive on his Arsenal debut, playing an important role in the build-up to the first two goals.

The result gives Arsenal an ideal beginning to their title defence and sends an early warning to their Premier League rivals.

For Coventry, the defeat provided a difficult introduction to life back in the top flight after their promotion.
