Aston Villa have identified Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as a potential replacement for Ollie Watkins, who is pushing for a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Villa have reportedly made an enquiry for Mateta as uncertainty grows over Watkins’ future amid interest from Saudi club Al-Hilal. Palace, however, have so far resisted approaches for the French striker.
Mateta’s future is also complicated by an ongoing contract dispute with Palace, while Villa are considering other attacking options, including Nicolas Jackson.
With the transfer window closing soon, Villa could face a major striker reshuffle if Watkins completes his move to Saudi Arabia.
