Manchester United have agreed a deal worth up to £70 million to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, in a major boost for manager Michael Carrick's midfield rebuild.

The agreement is understood to be worth £65 million upfront, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons. Brighton will also receive a sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Baleba, 22, is expected to undergo a medical before completing his move to Old Trafford. He is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury suffered during pre-season, although the injury is not considered serious.
The Cameroon international joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has established himself as one of the Premier League's promising young midfielders. He has made more than 100 appearances for the Seagulls.
His arrival would make Baleba Manchester United's third midfield signing of the summer, following Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.
United have been pursuing Baleba for some time, and the deal represents a significant piece of business after Brighton previously placed a much higher valuation on the midfielder.
For Carrick, Baleba's strength, energy and defensive ability could provide greater balance in midfield and give United another option in both defensive and box-to-box roles.
With the agreement now in place, United fans are waiting for Baleba to complete his medical and officially become the latest addition to Carrick's new-look squad.
