Liverpool and Man City Enter New Era Kicks Off

Liverpool and Manchester City are entering a new chapter of the Premier League era, with both clubs beginning the 2026/27 season without the figures who helped define their recent success — Mohamed Salah and Pep Guardiola.

For Liverpool, Salah's departure to Turkish club Trabzonspor brings an end to a remarkable spell at Anfield. The Egyptian forward had been one of the club's biggest attacking threats since joining in 2017.

Liverpool now begin life under Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot. The new manager faces the difficult task of rebuilding an attack without Salah while trying to improve on last season's fifth-place finish.

Manchester City are facing an equally significant change. Guardiola stepped down after a decade in charge that delivered 20 trophies, leaving former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca with the huge responsibility of following one of the most successful managers in Premier League history.

Both clubs still have talented squads and plenty of ambition, but the pressure will be immediate.

The big question is whether Liverpool and City can remain among England's elite after losing the men who became synonymous with their success.
