Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Is Under Its Controls

Iran says the Strait of Hormuz remains under its control and management, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

Hossein Taeb, head of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force, made the claim a day after US President Donald Trump said the United States had “total control” of the strategic waterway.

The competing claims highlight the growing tension between Washington and Tehran over the strait, one of the world's most important routes for oil shipments.

Shipping traffic through Hormuz has fallen sharply amid the conflict, raising concerns about fuel prices, energy supplies and the wider global economy.

For ordinary people, a prolonged disruption could mean higher petrol and transportation costs, while businesses could face rising shipping and operating expenses.

The latest statements suggest that control of Hormuz remains a major sticking point as efforts to ease the US-Iran confrontation continue.
