Poland says it has arrested a Russian citizen allegedly recruited by Russian intelligence services to kill a Ukrainian-American in Warsaw.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the suspect was detained on August 7 after authorities uncovered the alleged plot. The targeted person was described as a US citizen of Ukrainian origin who was considered “inconvenient” to the Putin regime.

Polish officials said the operation involved cooperation with US security services and prevented the planned attack before it happened.

Tusk described the case as an unprecedented attempt to target an American citizen on the territory of another NATO member.

The Russian government had not immediately responded to the allegations.

The case adds to growing concerns in Poland and across Europe about alleged Russian espionage and covert operations linked to the war in Ukraine.
