The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with separate incidents of violent unrest, murder and attacks on security personnel following disturbances in Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area.

Police authorities said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to restore order, investigate the violence and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Violence Erupts at Gujungu Market

According to the police, two of the suspects were arrested in connection with the violent disturbances that broke out at Gujungu Market on July 26, an incident that reportedly resulted in loss of life and destruction of property.

Investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances that triggered the unrest and the specific roles played by those arrested.

Multiple Criminal Cases Under Investigation

The remaining suspects were arrested over separate offences, including alleged murder and attacks on law enforcement officers during security operations.

The command stated that investigations are continuing and that additional arrests may be made if more evidence emerges.

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security

The Jigawa State Police Command said it remains committed to maintaining law and order across the state, warning that individuals involved in violence or criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.

Authorities urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.

Community Cooperation Encouraged

Police also appealed to community leaders and residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspicious activities through official security channels.

Officials stressed that intelligence supplied by members of the public remains vital in preventing further violence and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Jigawa State.

Investigation Ongoing

The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations if sufficient evidence is established against them.

Security agencies say efforts to prevent further disturbances in the affected communities remain ongoing, with additional patrols and surveillance deployed to maintain public order.
