Russian forces launched a fresh ballistic missile attack on Kyiv overnight, triggering multiple fires across the Ukrainian capital and forcing emergency services to respond to damage in several districts, Ukrainian authorities said.

The attack is the latest in a series of long-range strikes targeting Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities as the conflict continues into another year.

Explosions Rock the Capital

Air raid sirens sounded across Kyiv before residents reported hearing several powerful explosions.

Ukraine's Air Force said ballistic missiles were launched toward the capital, prompting air defence systems to intercept incoming threats.

Debris from intercepted missiles reportedly fell across several neighbourhoods, igniting fires in residential and commercial areas.

Fires Break Out Across Districts

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and local military officials confirmed that emergency crews were deployed to multiple locations where fires erupted following the attack.

Several buildings sustained damage, while firefighters worked through the night to extinguish blazes caused by falling missile fragments.

Authorities urged residents to remain inside shelters until the all-clear was issued.

Casualty Assessment Underway

Officials said emergency responders were assessing the extent of the damage and checking for casualties.

At the time of reporting, no confirmed death toll had been announced, though medical teams remained on standby as rescue operations continued.

Investigators are also examining damaged sites to determine the full impact of the missile strike.

Renewed Wave of Long-Range Strikes

The latest bombardment forms part of an intensified campaign of Russian missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities, infrastructure and military targets.

Ukraine has continued to rely on Western-supplied air defence systems to intercept incoming missiles, although officials acknowledge that the scale of recent attacks has placed significant pressure on defensive capabilities.

International Attention

The renewed strike on Kyiv is expected to draw further international condemnation as diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities remain stalled.

Western allies have repeatedly pledged continued military and humanitarian support for Ukraine while urging Russia to halt attacks on civilian areas.

Emergency services remain on alert as Ukrainian authorities warn that additional missile threats cannot be ruled out.
