Restaurant Explosion in Central Moscow Kills Three, Injures 15, Police Say

At least three people have been killed and 15 others injured following an explosion at a restaurant in central Moscow, according to Russian police and emergency officials.

The blast occurred in a busy commercial area, prompting a large-scale emergency response as firefighters, police officers and medical personnel rushed to the scene to rescue victims and secure the surrounding area. Authorities have cordoned off the site while investigators work to determine the cause of the explosion. 

Emergency Response

Witnesses reported hearing a powerful explosion that shattered windows, sent debris into nearby streets and caused panic among customers and pedestrians.

Emergency crews evacuated the building and neighbouring businesses while ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials said several of those injured suffered burns, cuts and other trauma-related injuries, with some reported to be in serious condition. 

Investigation Underway

Russian police confirmed the fatalities and injuries but have not yet announced what caused the explosion.

Investigators are examining several possible causes, including a gas-related incident and other technical failures. Authorities said it is too early to determine whether criminal activity played any role.

Specialist forensic teams have begun collecting evidence from the damaged building as engineers assess the structural integrity of the site. 

Area Secured

Security personnel have established a safety perimeter around the restaurant while nearby roads have been temporarily closed to allow emergency operations to continue.

Officials urged residents to avoid the area and follow instructions from emergency services as rescue and investigation efforts remain ongoing. Businesses in the immediate vicinity were also evacuated as a precaution.

Russian authorities said a comprehensive investigation will determine the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion and whether any safety regulations were breached.
