Swiss police have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a deadly shooting at a rave in the northern city of Aarau that left one woman dead and five others injured.
The shooting occurred during the weekend at a rave attended by thousands of people. A 22-year-old woman was killed, while four men and another woman, aged between 24 and 27, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Police said the suspect was arrested as investigations into the circumstances and possible motive continued. Authorities currently believe that a single perpetrator may have been involved, although investigators have not yet established what led to the shooting.
The incident triggered a major police operation in and around Aarau, with officers securing the area and German police also assisting in the search. The attack has shocked the community, particularly because serious public shootings are relatively uncommon in Switzerland.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack as families and the local community mourn the victim and await further answers.
