Brighton & Hove Albion produced an emphatic 5-0 victory over Coventry City on Sunday, leaving Frank Lampard’s side at the bottom of the Premier League after a difficult opening to their return to the top flight.
Charalampos Kostoulas opened the scoring before half-time, giving Brighton a deserved lead after Coventry had struggled to convert their early opportunities.

The visitors extended their advantage after the break when Malick Yalcouyé found the net, before Pascal Groß added a third from the penalty spot.
Lewis Dunk then provided the standout moment of the match with a spectacular long-range strike from around 35 yards, giving Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth little chance. Yasin Ayari completed Brighton’s scoring to round off a comprehensive away victory.
Coventry's afternoon became even more difficult when striker Taiwo Awoniyi was shown a straight red card for an elbow during an aerial challenge. The dismissal was confirmed following a VAR review, leaving Lampard's team with 10 men.
The defeat means Coventry have now lost all four of their Premier League matches this season without scoring a goal. The newly promoted side have therefore equalled a club record dating back to the 1919-20 season for losing their first four league matches.
Brighton, meanwhile, strengthened their position near the top of the table with another impressive attacking display. The Seagulls have shown considerable attacking threat during the opening weeks of the campaign, and their latest performance under Fabian Hürzeler highlighted their ability to create chances from different areas of the pitch.
Lampard acknowledged that his team face a significant challenge after the heavy defeat but pointed to Coventry’s missed opportunities and Brighton’s clinical finishing as important factors in the result.
For Coventry, attention now turns to finding a way to score their first goal and secure their first points of the season. Brighton will take confidence from a result that further underlines their strong start to the campaign.
