The Nigeria Immigration Service has honoured four senior officers who retired after completing 35 years of service to the country.
The valedictory ceremony was held on Thursday at the NIS headquarters in Abuja, bringing together senior officials, colleagues, family members and other well-wishers to celebrate the retirees and their careers.
The officers honoured were Deputy Comptroller-General D.M. Bagari, who served in Planning, Research and Statistics; Deputy Comptroller-General A. Obianime of ICT and Cybersecurity; Deputy Comptroller-General A.R. Sabo of Border Management; and Assistant Comptroller-General A.M. Halliday, who was in charge of the Migration Directorate.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, F.U. Nwanneka, described the retirees as senior officers whose careers contributed to the development of the service.
Nwanneka praised their leadership, dedication and contribution to the transformation of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
She also conveyed the appreciation of the Comptroller-General and other personnel, wishing the retirees a peaceful and fulfilling life after their years in public service.
The ceremony was described by the service as a celebration of professional achievement, institutional legacy and commitment to national duty.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for serving officers and members of the retirees' families to reflect on their decades of service and formally bid them farewell.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has continued to hold valedictory ceremonies for senior personnel as officers complete their careers. Earlier in January, the service also honoured Deputy Comptroller-General Ada James Umanah after 35 years of service.
The latest ceremony marks another transition for the service as the four officers begin their post-retirement lives after decades of working in different areas of Nigeria's immigration and border-management system.
