The Kwara State Police Command has presented cheques worth more than N10.6 million to the families of 19 police officers who died while serving the country.
The cheques, totaling N10,613,786.50, were presented at the command headquarters in Ilorin by the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the payment is part of welfare interventions designed to support dependants of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
During the presentation, Adekimi urged the beneficiaries to use the financial assistance responsibly, particularly toward the welfare and education of their families.
The commissioner acknowledged that the payment could not replace the loved ones the families had lost, but said it demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s continued concern for the dependants of deceased officers.
Adekimi also commended the Inspector-General of Police for sustaining welfare initiatives aimed at supporting families of personnel who died while serving.
Speaking on behalf of the 19 beneficiaries, M.T. Moshood expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General and the Nigeria Police Force for remembering the families of the deceased officers.
Moshood described the intervention as a meaningful gesture that showed the families of fallen officers had not been forgotten.
The Kwara State Police Command said it would continue to support personnel welfare while honouring officers who lost their lives in the service of the nation.
