Daniel Dubois eyes Tyson Fury blockbuster after Fabio Wardley rematch

WBO heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois has set his sights on a potential blockbuster fight with Tyson Fury if he successfully defends his title against Fabio Wardley later this month.

Dubois is due to face Wardley in an immediate rematch at The O2 in London on October 17, following their dramatic first encounter earlier this year. Dubois stopped Wardley in the 11th round after recovering from two early knockdowns to win the WBO heavyweight title.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Dubois said a fight with Fury would be a major event and suggested it could become possible if both heavyweights win their upcoming bouts.

“What a fight that would be,” Dubois said, describing a potential meeting with Fury as a contest of similar magnitude to his previous fight with Anthony Joshua. He added that he first needs to get through the Wardley rematch before considering what comes next.

Fury is scheduled to face Joshua on December 11 in Cardiff in one of the biggest all-British heavyweight fights of recent years. Dubois has predicted that Fury will win the contest but said his immediate focus remains firmly on Wardley.

Dubois has already shared the ring with Joshua, knocking him out in their 2024 meeting. A future bout with Fury would therefore give him the opportunity to face another of Britain's most prominent heavyweight names.

However, Dubois insists he is not looking beyond Wardley. The champion said he is concentrating fully on the October 17 rematch and expects Wardley to return determined to change the result of their first fight.

Wardley activated his contractual rematch clause after losing the first contest. The second fight was subsequently confirmed for The O2, where both men will meet again for Dubois' WBO heavyweight championship.

A victory for Dubois would strengthen his position among the leading heavyweights and could open the door to several major fights. A Fury bout, though, remains a future possibility rather than a confirmed agreement.

For now, Dubois must first overcome Wardley for a second time. With Fury and Joshua also preparing for their December showdown, the results of both fights could help shape the next major chapter of Britain's heavyweight division.
