A viral video appearing to show veteran Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem confronting Seyi Tinubu has sparked discussion online, but fact-checkers say the footage was digitally manipulated.
The clip combines footage of Seyi Tinubu attending an event with audio of Abdulkareem delivering remarks at a separate event in Edo State. The editing creates the impression that the rapper was speaking directly to President Bola Tinubu’s son.
According to FactCheckHub, the footage showing Seyi was recorded on March 9, 2026, during an event where Nigerian musician Konga performed a song in honour of President Tinubu. Seyi and members of his entourage were seen listening to the performance.
The audio, however, came from a different occasion. Abdulkareem made the remarks during a public event in Edo State in April 2026, where he criticised the Tinubu administration over insecurity and other national issues.
During the Edo event, Abdulkareem also referred to comments previously made by Seyi Tinubu, who had described his father as Nigeria’s greatest president during an appearance in Adamawa State in March 2025.
The rapper has previously explained that his song “Tell Your Papa” was inspired by Seyi’s comments. Abdulkareem said the song was intended as a response to what Seyi had said and as a call for the government to address issues such as insecurity, electricity, employment and economic hardship.
The National Broadcasting Commission later classified “Tell Your Papa” as a song that should not be broadcast on radio and television, generating debate over artistic expression and broadcasting regulation.
The latest viral clip has therefore revived an earlier public exchange between Abdulkareem and Seyi Tinubu. However, there is no evidence from the original footage that the two men were together when the rapper made the remarks.
The case also highlights how combining genuine audio and video from different occasions can create a misleading impression on social media. While Abdulkareem’s remarks were real, the viral presentation falsely suggests they were delivered directly to Seyi at the event.
