National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Seriake Dickson, has acknowledged that irregularities occurred during the party's recently concluded primaries and appealed to dissatisfied aspirants to remain committed to the party.

Dickson said that while the exercise was not perfect, members should understand the challenges faced by a relatively new political party operating within a tight electoral timetable. He urged aspirants who felt dissatisfied with the outcome to remain patient as the party works to address grievances.

NDC Promises Reconciliation Process

According to Dickson, the party has already established mechanisms to handle complaints and reconcile members following the primaries. He called on state leaders and stakeholders to actively participate in efforts aimed at fostering unity ahead of future elections.

The former Bayelsa governor emphasized that disagreements and complaints are not uncommon during primary elections and noted that even older and more established political parties have experienced similar challenges.

Aspirants Urged Not to Abandon Party

Dickson appealed to unsuccessful aspirants not to leave the party because of the primary outcomes, describing them as important stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of the NDC. He argued that political setbacks should be viewed as temporary and encouraged members to focus on the party's broader objectives.

He also dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that final winners had already been officially announced, urging the public to rely on formal communications from the party.

Plans for Technology-Driven Primaries

As part of efforts to improve future internal elections, Dickson revealed that the NDC intends to introduce electronic voting systems for future congresses and primaries. He said the recently concluded exercise would likely be the last manual primary conducted by the party.

Party leaders believe technology-driven processes could help improve transparency, reduce disputes, and strengthen confidence in future elections.

Focus Turns to Party Unity

With the primaries concluded, the NDC leadership says its attention is now focused on reconciliation, unity, and preparations for upcoming elections. Party officials have called on members to work together and support the party's candidates as it seeks to strengthen its position on the national political stage.
