Authorities launch investigation as officials promise tougher enforcement of fire safety regulations
The Governor of Bangkok has pledged to strengthen fire safety regulations following a deadly pub fire that has claimed the lives of 30 people, with several others receiving treatment for injuries.
Authorities said emergency responders rushed to the scene after the fire broke out at the entertainment venue, evacuating patrons and working for hours to contain the blaze. The death toll has continued to rise as some of the injured succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and whether the establishment complied with existing building and fire safety regulations.
Speaking after visiting the scene, the governor vowed to tighten inspections of entertainment venues across the city and ensure stricter enforcement of fire safety standards to help prevent similar tragedies.
Officials said investigators are examining the venue's emergency exits, fire suppression systems, electrical installations, and occupancy records as part of the inquiry. Authorities also indicated that legal action would be taken if violations of safety regulations are confirmed.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for stronger oversight of public entertainment venues, with government agencies expected to review safety protocols and emergency preparedness measures nationwide.
Authorities have expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged continued support for those injured as the investigation into the deadly fire continues.
