Electoral Commission Gives Eligible Nigerians More Time to Register
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to July 24, giving eligible Nigerians additional time to register or update their voter information ahead of future elections.
The commission said the extension is intended to accommodate more prospective voters and improve participation in the electoral process.
Alongside the deadline extension, INEC unveiled an online self-service portal designed to make voter registration and data updates more convenient.
The platform allows eligible citizens to begin the registration process, request corrections to personal information, apply for transfers of polling units, and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), subject to the commission's verification procedures.
INEC said the digital platform is part of its efforts to modernize electoral services, reduce congestion at registration centres and provide Nigerians with easier access to voter-related services.
Applicants who complete portions of the process online may still be required to visit designated INEC offices for biometric capture and final verification, where applicable.
The commission urged eligible Nigerians not to wait until the final days of the exercise before completing their registration or updating their records.
INEC also encouraged citizens to use only its official registration channels and to follow published guidelines to ensure a smooth and successful registration process.
