The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Niger Delta University (NDU) branch, has suspended its indefinite strike following an agreement with the Bayelsa State Government over outstanding allowances and wage award arrears.

The union had embarked on the industrial action over delays in implementing the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Professional Allowance, among other outstanding financial commitments.
ASUU-NDU Chairman, Lucky Bebeteidoh, said the decision to suspend the strike followed the signing of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the union and the state government.
Under the agreement, payment of the CATA and Professional Allowance is expected to begin in October 2026, while the government will commence payment of nine months of outstanding allowances and 19 months of wage award arrears from January 2027.
The agreement also reportedly guarantees that no member of ASUU will be victimised for participating in the industrial action.
The suspension is expected to pave the way for the resumption of academic activities at Niger Delta University, bringing relief to students and staff who had been affected by the strike.
