Parties Clash Over Anti-Graft Agency’s Role in Osun State Account Freeze Ahead of Governorship Election 
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) have taken opposing positions over growing calls for the resignation of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the agency’s decision to freeze an Osun State Government account ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The disagreement comes amid heightened political tension after the EFCC placed a Post-No-Debit (PND) restriction on one of the Osun State Government’s accounts as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged handling of public funds. The move has generated widespread reactions from political parties, legal practitioners and civil society groups.
APGA Backs Calls for Resignation
APGA officials argued that the timing of the EFCC’s action has raised serious concerns about the neutrality of federal institutions in the run-up to the Osun governorship election.
According to the party, public confidence in the electoral process could be undermined if anti-corruption agencies are perceived as acting in ways that influence the political environment.
The party maintained that accountability and transparency should apply to all public institutions, including agencies responsible for investigating financial crimes.
YPP Opposes Demand
The YPP, however, rejected calls for the EFCC chairman to resign, insisting that ongoing investigations should not be politicised.
Party representatives argued that anti-graft agencies must be allowed to perform their constitutional responsibilities without pressure from political interests.
According to the YPP, any allegations concerning the legality of the account freeze should be resolved through the courts rather than through demands for the removal of the commission’s leadership.

The controversy began after the EFCC confirmed that it froze an Osun State Government account while investigating alleged suspicious financial transactions involving public funds.
The Osun State Government has condemned the action, describing it as unlawful and politically motivated, while the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has questioned whether the commission possesses the constitutional authority to impose such restrictions without proper judicial authorisation.
