Security Tightens Across Osun Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship Election 
The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security preparations in Osun State, with officers embarking on a route march as the state prepares for Saturday’s governorship election.
The exercise is aimed at reassuring residents, strengthening police visibility and helping maintain peace before and during voting.
At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun distributing sensitive election materials across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Security Agencies Step Up Preparations
More than 25,000 security personnel from the police, NSCDC and EFCC have been deployed for the election, while military personnel have also been stationed at strategic locations, including the INEC headquarters in Osogbo.
The police have urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious activities as election day approaches.
INEC Moves Materials
INEC says sensitive materials, including ballot papers and BVAS devices, are being securely handled and moved according to its established logistics plan.
For voters, the heightened security and movement of election materials signal that preparations are entering their final stage.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with voters expected to choose the state's next governor.
