Longest-Serving Woman in U.S. House Suffers Non-Life-Threatening Injuries in Ohio Hit-and-Run Incident                                 

                           

Veteran U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur has sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a car crash in Toledo, Ohio, according to a statement released by her congressional office.

Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a vehicle travelling to a church service on Sunday morning when it was involved in what local police described as a hit-and-run (also referred to locally as a "hit-skip") collision.

Office Says Congresswoman Is Alert

In an official statement, Kaptur's office said the congresswoman remains conscious and is receiving medical treatment.

"She is active, alert, and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries," her office said, adding that she is grateful for the prompt response of emergency personnel and expects to return to her regular schedule after recovering.

First responders from the Toledo Police Department and Toledo Fire Department arrived quickly at the scene and transported those injured for medical evaluation.

Police Investigating Hit-and-Run

According to local authorities, officers responded to the two-vehicle crash shortly before 11:00 a.m. EDT.

The incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run after one of the drivers reportedly left the scene. Police have not publicly released further details about the suspect or the circumstances leading to the collision.

Long Congressional Career

Kaptur, a Democrat representing Ohio's 9th Congressional District, has served in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than four decades and holds the distinction of being the longest-serving woman in the chamber's history.

She is currently seeking another term in Congress and is expected to face Republican challenger Derek Merrin in the upcoming election.

Recovery Expected

The U.S. House of Representatives is currently on its summer recess, meaning Kaptur was not scheduled to participate in congressional business in Washington this week.

Her office indicated that she remains in good spirits and is looking forward to resuming her official duties once medically cleared.
