Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in New Delhi to attend the BRICS summit and hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian television channels reported on Saturday.
Xi’s visit comes as India hosts the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit on September 12 and 13. The gathering brings together leaders from major emerging economies to discuss trade, investment, international security and cooperation.

The Chinese president’s arrival is significant for relations between Beijing and New Delhi, which have experienced tensions in recent years but have also shown signs of improving dialogue.
China’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday that preparations were underway for a bilateral meeting between Xi and Modi. Spokesperson Mao Ning said China was willing to approach relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective while strengthening communication and managing differences.
The meeting is expected to draw particular attention because of the importance of India-China relations to regional stability and global trade. Both countries are major economies and influential members of the BRICS grouping.
Other leaders attending the summit include Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The meeting comes against the backdrop of conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as continuing tensions between the United States and China.
BRICS has expanded significantly since its original formation and now represents a substantial share of the world's population and economic output. The group has increasingly focused on strengthening cooperation among emerging economies and giving developing countries a greater voice in global institutions.
Xi's presence in Delhi is therefore expected to make the summit an important platform for both broader BRICS discussions and renewed engagement between China and India.
