At Least 17 Killed in Joint US-Israeli Strikes in Iran, Buildings Destroyed in Tehran and Baharestan

At least 17 people were reported dead early Monday following a series of joint United States and Israeli attacks in Iran, local media outlets said. The strikes targeted residential areas and critical infrastructure, causing significant damage and prompting ongoing search and rescue operations.

In Tehran, the eastern part of the capital was hit hard, with three buildings collapsing and approximately 50 homes reported damaged, according to Mehr News Agency. Initial reports indicated that four people were killed and seven others injured, while emergency teams continued to search through the rubble for survivors.

Earlier Monday, at least 13 people were killed in the Baharestan County, according to the Fars News Agency. The governor of Baharestan confirmed that fatalities occurred when US and Israeli forces bombed two residential units in the town of Qaleh Mir. Debris removal and rescue operations are ongoing as teams work to locate survivors.

No official statement has been released regarding the full extent of the damage, though Iranian air defense systems were reportedly activated during the attacks.

Reports indicate that the strikes in Tehran occurred about two hours prior to the Baharestan attacks, with one of the targeted sites being Sharif University of Technology, a prominent educational institution in the city. The targeting of such infrastructure underscores the severity and breadth of the operations.

The attacks mark a continuation of escalating hostilities in the region, following previous US and Israeli military actions against Iranian targets. Local authorities and emergency response units remain on high alert, responding to both casualties and structural damage across affected areas.

The strikes have raised widespread concern over civilian safety and infrastructure stability, with many residential communities directly affected. Observers note that the scale of destruction in urban centres like Tehran and Baharestan may have long-term humanitarian and social consequences, particularly as rescue and recovery operations continue.

Authorities are urging residents to stay clear of damaged areas while search and rescue teams work to recover those trapped in collapsed buildings. The situation remains fluid, with additional reports expected as operations continue.

The ongoing military campaign has intensified regional tensions, with Iran’s air defense systems actively responding to incoming strikes, though the human and material cost of the attacks is already significant.
