Military Takes Custody of Suspected Insurgent Leaders
The Nigerian Army has detained senior terrorist leaders following their surrender to troops in Borno State, as security forces continue operations against insurgent groups in the region.
The military said the individuals were taken into custody for screening, investigation and further action in line with established security procedures.
The development comes amid continued efforts by Nigerian security agencies to encourage insurgents to lay down their arms and support peace initiatives in the North-East.
Military authorities have maintained that surrender programmes, alongside security operations, remain important in reducing violence and restoring stability in affected communities.
Security officials are expected to conduct investigations to verify the identities, roles and activities of those who surrendered.
The army said such measures are necessary to ensure that individuals who leave terrorist groups are properly assessed before any reintegration or legal decisions are considered.
Borno State has faced years of insecurity linked to insurgent activities, with communities affected by displacement and disruption of livelihoods.
Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of security operations, humanitarian support and community cooperation in efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
