Blasts Reported Near Hotel During French President's Trip
At least 18 people have been injured after explosions struck central Damascus during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Syria, according to local officials and reports.
The blasts occurred near the Four Seasons Hotel area, where Macron was staying during his visit, but the French president was not harmed and was away from the location at the time of the incident.
Authorities said the explosions involved improvised explosive devices placed near the area, with security agencies launching investigations into the incident.
Four police officers were among those reported injured, while emergency teams responded to the scene and secured the surrounding area.
Despite the security incident, Macron continued his planned meetings with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa as part of his diplomatic visit.
The visit has been closely watched internationally as France seeks to engage with Syria's new leadership and discuss issues including stability, reconstruction and future cooperation.
The explosions highlight the continuing security difficulties facing Syria as the country works through a period of political transition and attempts to rebuild after years of conflict.
Officials have not announced any claim of responsibility for the blasts, while investigations into the attack remain ongoing.
