NATO leaders have convened in Ankara, Turkey, for a high-level summit focused on collective security, defense cooperation and the alliance's long-term strategic priorities.

The meeting comes amid renewed debate after U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his views on issues including Iran and Greenland, adding to discussions among member states on regional security and transatlantic relations.

A key focus of the summit is defense investment, with NATO members highlighting new defense procurement agreements and reaffirming efforts to strengthen military capabilities across the alliance.

Officials are also expected to discuss support for Ukraine, burden-sharing among allies and measures to enhance collective defense in response to evolving global security challenges.

During his visit to Ankara, President Trump renewed criticism of some NATO allies over their approach to the recent conflict involving Iran and again raised the issue of Greenland, comments that have drawn responses from several European leaders.

Despite these differences, NATO officials have emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and continuing cooperation on shared security objectives.

The Ankara summit is expected to conclude with discussions on strengthening the alliance, improving defense readiness and addressing emerging geopolitical challenges.

Observers say the outcome of the meeting could shape NATO's strategic direction as member states seek to balance differing policy views while reinforcing collective security commitments.
