Overnight Assault Causes Widespread Damage Across Ukrainian Capital
Russia launched one of its largest missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, overnight, killing at least 21 people and injuring more than 90 others, according to Ukrainian officials.
The large-scale assault involved dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones, damaging residential buildings, public infrastructure and commercial properties across multiple districts of the city. Emergency services continued search-and-rescue operations as crews worked to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed structures.

Ukrainian authorities said several apartment buildings sustained severe damage, with fires breaking out in multiple neighborhoods. More than 100 buildings were reportedly affected, prompting evacuations and emergency response efforts throughout the capital.
Officials declared a day of mourning in Kyiv as investigators assessed the extent of the destruction and warned that the casualty figures could change as rescue operations continued.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for additional air defense systems from Ukraine's international partners, arguing that enhanced defensive capabilities are needed to better protect civilians from ongoing missile and drone attacks.
Russia said the strikes targeted military and infrastructure sites, while Ukrainian officials said civilian areas suffered significant damage during the bombardment.
The latest attack has drawn renewed international concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict. Governments and international organizations have continued to urge the protection of civilians and called for diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities.
Rescue teams remain at affected locations as authorities continue to assess the full impact of the overnight strikes.
