The Presidency has blamed the contractor handling the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road project for the recent road failure, describing the incident as an isolated case and calling for immediate corrective action.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said the government responded swiftly after the highway deteriorated, with Works Minister David Umahi and other stakeholders visiting the affected areas.
Dare said the contractor’s handling of the project amounted to a failure, stressing that while the government is responsible for identifying roads requiring attention and providing funding, contractors must execute projects according to the required standards.
The Benin-Agbor-Asaba corridor has faced severe congestion and difficult driving conditions, leaving motorists and travellers stranded for extended periods. Umahi apologised to commuters during his inspection and directed that urgent measures be taken to restore movement.
President Tinubu has also ordered the redesign and total reconstruction of the troubled road, rather than relying solely on temporary repairs.
The Presidency says the government is determined to address the crisis quickly while holding the contractor responsible for the poor handling of the strategic highway.
