Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro are in a technical tie in a potential second-round contest ahead of Brazil’s October presidential election, according to a new Nexus poll.

The latest BTG Pactual/Nexus survey puts Lula at 46% and Flávio at 45% in a simulated runoff, with the one-point difference falling within the poll’s margin of error.
Lula remains ahead in the first round, receiving 38% of voter support compared with 31% for Flávio Bolsonaro. The poll surveyed 2,000 voters by telephone between August 21 and 23 and has a margin of error of two percentage points.
The figures underline how competitive the election could become as the campaign gathers pace, with Lula seeking another term while Flávio attempts to bring Brazil’s Bolsonaro movement back to power.
With the two leading candidates separated by only a narrow margin in a potential runoff, Brazil’s presidential race is shaping up to be a closely fought contest.
