Two Civilians Also Die as Security Forces Battle Suspected Bandits
Ten police officers have been killed during a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed.
The clash occurred along the Rafin Makuku axis as police operatives intercepted a group of suspected bandits moving between Kebbi and neighbouring Zamfara State.
Police said 17 suspected bandits and two civilians were also killed during the encounter, while two police officers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
The deaths have left families and communities mourning, while the Nigeria Police Force said the fallen officers paid the ultimate price while protecting the public.
The remains of the officers have been taken to Birnin Kebbi, while additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to pursue fleeing members of the criminal group.
The incident highlights the continuing security challenges facing communities across Nigeria's north-west, where armed groups have carried out attacks, kidnappings and raids.
Authorities say operations will continue as security agencies work to restore calm and bring those responsible to justice.
