Local officials and residents said attackers moved from house to house, killing residents, with women and children reportedly among most of the victims.

A local councillor said 23 people were initially confirmed dead, while residents reported that two more victims later died, bringing the reported death toll to at least 25.

Police said security personnel were being deployed to the affected area and that further details would be provided after an assessment.

The latest attack has renewed concerns about the cycle of violence in Plateau, where longstanding tensions between farming and herding communities have repeatedly triggered deadly attacks and reprisals.

Residents and community leaders are now calling for stronger security measures to prevent further violence and protect vulnerable communities.

Authorities are expected to investigate the attack and work to prevent the situation from escalating into another round of retaliatory violence.
