Residents Ask Tinubu and Soludo to Intervene in Dispute Over Transmission Line
Residents of Ebenesi Community in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, have protested against the planned demolition of their ancestral homes for a proposed power transmission project.
The community is asking President Bola Tinubu and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene and persuade the relevant authorities to reconsider the proposed route.
Residents Fear Losing Their Homes
Community leaders said houses along the proposed route have been marked for demolition, with affected residents reportedly given a 14-day ultimatum to remove the structures themselves or risk government demolition.
They said no clear relocation arrangement had been provided for families that could lose their homes.
The protesters also alleged that six elderly residents have died amid the tension surrounding the proposed demolition, although the claim has not been independently verified.
Community Wants Alternative Route
The residents said they are not opposed to electricity infrastructure or development, but want the transmission line moved away from densely populated areas.
They have suggested that the project could be relocated or, if it must pass through the community, constructed underground to reduce displacement.
For families living in the affected area, the dispute is about more than infrastructure—it concerns their homes, ancestral land and where they will live if the demolition proceeds.
The community is now awaiting intervention from the federal and state governments as the disagreement over the project continues.
